Required Documents

Please send the required documents listed below (in English or German except for the essay which has to be in English):

  • Official degree certificate(s) (e.g. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree) in biology or closely related discipline of the natural sciences (e.g. biochemistry, biophysics, molecular or experimental medicine) with a minimum of 140 credit points (if the Bachelor’s degree is not yet completed).

  • All relevant documents with respect to your academic education, including a detailed official transcript(s) of record of your BSc

  • Curriculum vitae with detailed documentation of your academic background. The CV should include a detailed description of lab internships (duration, location and topic), if applicable.

  • Essay (1000 - 1500 words; in English) that further details your qualifications for ECN with respect to academic record and interdisciplinary background (e.g. refer to project experience, method knowledge, publications). Please also let us know how you actually learned about ECN.

  • In case you are not a native speaker of English, please provide proof of language proficiency. We require level B2 of GER (General European Reference frame - http://www.europaeischer-referenzrahmen.de/) which is obtained by most applicants with German „Abitur“ depending on their curriculum. B2 is equivalent to a TOEFL test above 80 points, or an IELTS test above Band 6. If the language of your Bachelor’s degree was English, that would also be deemed sufficient.

  • Financial statement (Would you be able to finance your ECN studies? How?)

No greater detail is required regarding the financial statement. It is mostly intended to make foreign students aware of the living costs in Germany. Important information on living costs and tuition fees can be found on the ECN homepage: http://www.uni-regensburg.de/Fakultaeten/nat_Fak_III/Zoologie/Elite/html/tuition.html

Special remarks for non-German applicants:

In addition to the documents listed above, international applicants have to hand in the following forms:

  • Applicants from China, Vietnam and Mongolia: An APS certificate should be included to your application!
  • For further information about the APS, please refer to your country of residence: China, Vietnam, Mongolia

All documents must be submitted in English or German!

Certified copies of official documents are not mandatory at the time of submission.
However, certified copies of all relevant documents (e.g., B.Sc. degree, transcripts) must be submitted upon acceptance to the programme. Documents can be certified, for example, by the dean's or registrar's office of your university, a German embassy or consulate, a branch of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), a Goethe Institute, or a public notary.
